All this week at the gym, there has been a new trainer. I finally spoke to him to find out who he was, it was all very hush, hush. His client looked very familiar to me but I thought I knew him from the neighborhood. He seemed like a nice enough guy, he said he traveled with his client when his client was traveling. I didn't give it a second thought. Today one of my fellow trainers told me that Adam Clayton from U2 had been training all week......It clicked finally...I can be so asleep sometimes. He looked so familiar but the gym was so out of context for me. Anyway..5 minutes later Adam and his trainer walked in to train. He was just like any other dude struggling in the gym. So....at some point while he was lying on the mat being stretched I went up to him to interrupt his session, very politely of course...and tell him a story. In 1985 (I think it was 85') John (JAE) was in NYC for some reason and we were hanging out, we were rather close friends. He surprised me by getting tickets to U2 for myself, my boyfriend and best friend. We went backstage after the show and hung out with U2, which was lots of fun. After so many years I don't really remember the details of meeting Bono but my friend Beth says I was sitting at a table with him at some after party..deep in conversation. What I do remember very vividly was John being really impressed with the show and that was a big deal because he was not easily impressed. So.........I shared this story with Adam Clayton, who seemed really pleased to hear it. He then asked me my name and told me his was Adam and went to shake my hand. It was nice to remember John (aka big Johnnie Twinkle or as I refferred to him "the Stove") to another Rock Bass player. Later....I googled Adam Clayton to make sure I was spelling his name right and all that. I found out that he stopped drinking and drugging, got sober and changed his life around some time ago. I could not help feeling sad that John did not do the same.

About Me
- Name: glow NYC
- Location: New York, New York, United States
I'm a woman living in NYC, I have lived here most of my life except for a short stint in LA. I've been a personal trainer for 10 years, I take my job very seriously. I'm into helping people change their lives. I'm also a nutrition and lifestlye coach. I love animals, I wish I could save them all. I love music of all kinds. "THE WHO" are my guys, or as I've heard Pete refer to them, "Who's Left". I enjoy all aspects of the arts. I'm a former ballerina but that was another life. I have a wonderful fiance' that I hope to finally marry sometime in the very near future. I also refuse to grow up but that is inevitable.

gigi,
Thanks for your response.
Cool story about U2.
I feel a little guilty. I have to admit, I put that "fashion thing" in sort of tongue and cheek.
I was in sales for about 10 years, before retiring to raise my kids in the suburbs.
I said that thing about fashion, as I shop ALL the time, I have a teenage daughter. And we are VERY into fashion around here.
But my sis-in-law is in the shoe import biz. So that is as close as I get these days to actually being a "garmento" .
This blogging thing is way strange to me. I can't link or download....just content to type out a few sentences. My best friend, and my husband, would never let me post pics. They're afraid, my luck, I'll attract some stalker.....
I've been a devoted fan of The Who and especially Pete for 30 years (i'm 40ish) so I got started on this.
I love Rachel, she seems cool, though she's younger then me, she seems wise beyond her years! good for Pete! AND she is so talented......
Anyway, I hope the sun peaks out tomorrow, all this rain is really getting me down. My dogs keep having "accidents" on purpose in the house! But I love them anyway.
Well bye for now. If you have any other Rock and Roll encounters do tell!
I hope this message finds you happy!
LG
Oh,
Please tell more about your friend, Johnnie Twinkle.
Who was he?
I'm sorry for your loss!
Bye!
Hi Gigi, finally found your blog. You left off the Luka8 part and so I had to do some searching. So funny to read the U2 story. You, John and I were all in conversation with Bono, his wife and Adam I believe. John was holding court at a table and the youngin's came by to pay respects. FYI: your boyfriend at the time was not a part of that night, just you and I. I've been reading Rachel's blog too and really am enjoying it. Hope to see you on my Birthday,
love and kisses
